So I finally finished that purple crochet scarf that I just made up a pattern for (single, double, half double on repeat until I ran out of yarn).
It turned out pretty good, not as long as I would have liked (I should have made it narrower) but still looks good if I do say so myself.
Here's a closer view of my stitches. They are all pretty consistent, which makes me happy. What doesn't make me happy is that I wasn't focusing part of the time and I ended up with one end being narrower than the other:
See? I wasn't paying attention and I know that I forgot to chain one at the end of the row so I ended up making a few rows shorter than the rest. I'm also not terribly good at counting my stitches in crochet. Knitting yes, crochet no. Not sure why but that is a long philosophical discussion for another day.
Nevertheless to the "untrained" eye I think it looks fabulous and because this is a gift, the person I'm giving this to should damn well appreciate it, narrow end and all. 😉
Still working on my knitting project, which I am woefully behind on but that one is now also starting to take shape so I am feeling more confident about it.
Hope your day is filled with inspiring ideas.
Lola loves to jump around in the water, and she has started taking Toby's ball from him in a game of keep away. Then she decides to take the ball into the water, which isn't a good idea since she can't pick up the ball in the water, she only makes it sink more or she pushes it farther out in the water where I can't get it so then I have to send Toby out in the water to get the ball.
These are chuck-it balls, which aren't cheap, so I want the damn things back.
Look at her dirty face! This is what she's really like:
Don't let that cute little face fool you, she can be a terror.
Lounging around today, working on my knitting project, which, unfortunately, I know I'm not going to complete in time. That bugs me. I have been trying so hard for so long to finish what I start (and in a timely manner) that this is a step back. At least I tried, right?
Hey, has anyone seen these or tried them?
These are gorgeous and I would love to get one but they are SOOOOO very expensive I don't want to have serious buyers remorse. Does anyone have any feedback on these? I'd love to hear it.
I hope your day is restful.
Enjoy your day.
This has been a whirlwind week, with cleaning and purging and donating and updating and just plain throwing out, I get totally sidetracked and forget about other projects that I care about and have time invested in, like this writing.
But these distractions in life are temporary and life returns to its new normal, whatever that is at the moment.
I’ll tell you what, all this cleaning and purging and donating has been so awesome for me. I’ve learned what I need and what I don’t, what I can live with and without, how to do with less, and how to say goodbye to those things that no longer serve me, even if there is a sentimental attachment.
There are many, many things I will miss about Orlando; seeing a momma swan and her ducklings every spring will be one of them, and there really is so much more to Orlando than the theme parks.
It’s been a wild ride, and an interesting one, and one I will never forget.
Every new beginning comes from some other beginnings end.
Thinking about all these beautiful things today and how lucky I am to have them in my life.
All is well here, keeping very busy, and some personal life changes happening. It’s all good stuff though.
I hope you are well.
Understandably, Wolfie is exhausted after all the thrift store shopping and t-shirt yarn making from yesterday. So we are taking a break and enjoying the nice weather and tending to the garden today. Lettuce and tomatoes are growing and the carrots need to be picked.
Enjoy your Sunday.
It is a perfectly cold and rainy and crappy day here in the sunshine state (yes, really it is). We get these from time to time and I am not ashamed to say that I welcome them.
What!? You say? A break from the sunshine and warmth? Yes, I say that. And I say that because there is a reason for a break in the weather, there is a reason that animals go into hibernation once a year: it’s to give themselves a break, have a little down time to rest. All this constant hurry-hurry-hurry-let’s-do-this gets tiring after awhile.
Now, mind you, my dogs aren’t terribly happy about it today, but they will survive. I’ll take a sewing break later today and take them to the park. Hopefully it won’t be as cold around noon.
The kittens know enough to stay in when it’s raining, and during the day they are sleeping inside anyway.
I’m making some progress on my Trash2Trends piece:
Yesterday I added sleeves!
I’m trying not to cut I to too many pieces as they are just so beautiful. This has been challenging to say the least. Next week is the show, so come he’ll or high water it will have to be finished. I used to get really stressed about this stuff, but I’ve learned to let it go. It will get done and everything will work out exactly as it is supposed to. No worries.
Have a beautiful Sunday.
Hey everyone! Applications are open for the fashion event of the year – Trash2Trends 2017! Go to this link for more info and to sign up! I’ll see you there! Woot Woot!!!
I learned a trick from my dog sitter about easy functional clothes for the dog park – hospital scrubs! They are comfortable, durable, easy to wear, easy to clean, lots of pockets (very important) and best of all, I don’t care if they get dirty. The one problem I had with this particular pair (pictured above) is that I didn’t have a pocket on the left side.
What genius came up with that idea? Only pockets on one side? Now when I put my keys and my phone in my pockets, I feel like my pants are falling down on my right side. What the hell?
So I decided to fix that. Over the weekend I found a fabric remnant for the pocket (the striped one).
I ironed the piece, folded over the one edge, and sewed the folded ends together to finish. I centered the new pocket over the side seams at the same height as the pockets on the right side and sewed in place.
I thought that pocket was kind of boring and wanted something a bit more colorful. The thought of going through all my remnants was kind of a drudgery, when lo and behold – yes, people still say that – staring right at me were swatches from Spoonflower!
Underneath this very colorful swatch is the one that I used:
It’s a very soft stretchy material I sewed in place using a zigzag stitch, overlapping the striped remnant pocket.
And now my pants don’t fall down!
So much…on the one side…
It really is an easy thing to just be kind, but I suppose that depends upon the person that you are being kind to, right? It’s easy to be kind to someone you love or like, but try being kind to your idiot neighbors or the annoying co-worker, amirite?
Still, you don’t know what the other person is going through, or what their past is that makes them idiots or so annoying, and it just takes so much energy to be an asshole all the time, so why not try to be kind? Plus, if you’re not kind, Karma will whip around and bite you on the ass. Watch out.
I’ve seen it happen. Not pretty.
Have a kind day.
