I took ballet class as a child and loved it. The strength and beauty of it all was magical to me. I so much wanted to be a ballerina as a child. But when I came home after my first pointe class with bloody toes, my mom said NO.
I was heartbroken.
A few years pass and I start back to class as a young adult. I don’t know what I was thinking, I was considered “too old” to be a dancer, and soon realized that my body just does not bend and move in the way proficient and talented ballerinas do. I look better dancing hip hop or doing gymnastics. But I kept at it. Not realizing that all that dance training has helped me tremendously in yoga. The body awareness and placement used in ballet is the same in yoga.
All that stretching has really helped too.
It reminds me of something I’ve heard that goes like: everything you do now is preparing you for something in your future.
